Kindness Tree Activity

I found this "Kindness Tree" activity while searching for new ideas to teach our daughter about kindness. She really loves when she can put a flower on the tree and so she is finding ways to be kind to others. This is a really sweet activity.

Nature walks

One of the reasons my husband and I moved from the Midwest to Portland Oregon is because we love to hike. We knew that this would be something that we could do with our daughter too. When she was little, we would put her in the backpack and she would be lulled to sleep by the fresh air and movement but now that she is older she is enjoying hiking herself.

There are so many wonderful and educational activities in nature for kids. Today, we went on a nature walk with some friends and wow did our girls have fun playing in the dirt, looking for salamanders, finding pine cones, flowers and fern plants, not to mention a very exciting game of hide-and-seek behind some beautiful trees. If you live in Portland, the hiking trails at the Audubon society are perfect for children. http://www.audubonportland.org/

My mother-in-law sent me this article awhile ago and I wanted to include this in the post too because I think it is incredibly important to take children out into nature to explore the world.
