Great activity to keep those preschoolers busy while cooking dinner

Tonight I was preparing a meal with pasta and my sweet little daughter wanted my full attention but wasn't interested in helping make the meal. So, I grabbed some of the uncooked pasta noodles, some string and asked her to make a noodle necklace (one of my favorite childhood activities). To my delight, she thought this was a great idea and spent the next 45 minutes making a necklace for her daddy (which he wore proudly all night). This was a great "lacing" activity and also helped her learn about the difference between uncooked and cooked pasta noodles. Not to mention, gave me some time to enjoy preparing a healthy meal for our little family!

Silhouette of your little one

Another great idea from my mother-in-law is to send in a picture (profile) of your little one and have a Silhouette created. Even though it takes some time to have your child stand still for a profile picture, it is worth it! We absolutely love the Silhouette of our precious daughter.

A Preschooler's Sense of Time and project

I was just reading my favorite parenting book, Your Three-Year Old Friend or Enemy by Louise Bates Ames, about sense of time:

"One reason that time is hard for little children may be that they cannot see it-it is intangible and invisible. As Braga and Braga suggest, if you can translate it into something they can see, it may help. Thus, you might provide a big monthly calendar with spaces for the days, large enough so that you can draw small pictures in the sections. Each day, let the child cross off yesterday. Or, have a daily calendar, and each day let him tear off another leaf. Calendar work translates temporal order into spatial context-children can "see" that yesterday came before (or to the left of) today, and that tomorrow will come after (or the the right of ) today."

Since our daughter is interested in learning about time right now, I thought that this would be a great project for understanding time and learning the days of the week.

Easter Projects

I found this great idea for teaching preschoolers about Easter and it is called Resurrection Eggs.
This is the first year that we will be trying it with our daughter and I'm hoping that it will be a success!
