Calendar Fun!

Lately my daughter has been really interested in time, days, months and years so I was searching for a tool to help her visualize and understand. I found a wonderful tool on that allows you to create a calendar with pictures of your children, family members, etc. This has been really helpful for her and she LOVES looking at all the pictures. We have a picture of each family member on their birthday, a picture of our daughter for her first school day, Halloween pictures, Christmas and so on. With this tool, she is really excited about learning all about time and asks me every morning to cross off yesterday and tell her what day of the week and month.

Dealing with Preschool peer pressure

I've been noticing that my sweet daughter is now being influenced by her peers, yes, her 3 year old peers. She has started to say new words and stick her tongue out (gasp!) and other actions that I prefer her not to do and we definitely don't allow in our home. If I see her copying a bad behavior, I remind her that we don't act like that in our home and if it happens later in the day/night we talk about where she learned this behavior and why we don't act that way. I really didn't expect to see this at such a young age!!

Here is an article that was helpful:

Treasure Hunt

The other day, my daughter had a friend over to play and they were in need of an activity.  So, I decided to pick up some toys and hide them around our home for the girls to find on a treasure hunt.  To my surprise, they loved searching and finding all the hidden toys! They kept asking me hide all the toys again and again.  (We made a map too, but they weren't that interested in that part of the hunt).

Pretend Play

Oh, how I love pretend play with a three year old!! We have been having so much pretending we are ballerinas, doctor/nurse, grocery store employees/shoppers, clothing store employees/shoppers, dolphins, Wonder Pets (based on the TV show) saving all sorts of animals, people and trains from some sort of predicament and, well, anything that we can think of we will magically turn into during the course of a day!

After we are done with our pretend play we talk about it and create a story, which she loves to do. Sometimes at nap/bedtime we will talk about our story instead of reading a book, which is always fun because the story starts to evolve and morph into something else. We love watching her be so creative with the pretend play, I hope she doesn't grow out of this phase too soon!

A great book to go along with this pretend play is SkippyJonJones by Judith Schachner.
